How a custom order actually works (start to finish)
A lot of people have never commissioned a piece of furniture before, and they're not sure what they're signing up for. So here's exactly how it goes.
1. You tell me what you're picturing
A message, a photo from Pinterest, a rough sketch on a napkin — all fine. Dimensions help, but if you don't know them, tell me the space and I'll figure it out.
2. I give you a real number
I'll come back with a price and a rough timeline, usually within a day or two. If your budget doesn't line up with the design, I'll tell you honestly and suggest a change that gets you closer — a different wood, a simpler profile, a slightly smaller footprint.
3. Deposit and a spot on the bench
A deposit holds your build slot and covers materials. Then you go back to your life.
4. Photos while it's being built
This is the part people tell me they like most. I send photos as the piece comes together — rough stock, joinery, glue-up, the first coat of finish. You see it happen. Nothing is a surprise on delivery day.
5. Finish, plaque, delivery
Final coats get plenty of cure time, the plaque goes on, and I deliver locally myself. For picnic tables and larger outdoor pieces, I'll set them where you want them.
That's the whole thing. No portal to log into, no account to make — just texts and photos from a guy in a shop.
